What is Treatment takes place in Rehab?
Rehab refers to treatment aimed at rehabilitating individuals who suffer from an addiction. Treatment rehab may involve detox from the substance, either with the help of medication or a gradual reduction plan. This will help those individuals who are physically dependent on a substance. Following this, treatment rehab will focus on the psychological dependence. This will typically involve one-to-one counselling and group counselling, and may involve other holistic and relaxation therapies as well.
There are a number of ways in which treatment rehab can take place. According to the National Treatment Outcome Research Study (NTORS), it is most intensively accessed residentially. This is due to the presence of medically and therapeutically trained individuals on hand throughout an individual's stay. Also, being completely removed from a drug or alcohol related environment can also be enormously beneficial in maintaining abstinence. A safe, professional and structured environment also means it will be much more difficult for individuals to obtain drugs or alcohol.
Treatment rehab can also be accessed on an out-patient basis at a treatment centre. However, this will involve the individual returning home every evening, and therefore it lacks the previously mentioned benefits of residential treatment.
Individuals may also choose to access community- or home-based treatment rehab. Again, these are much less intensive options than residential support, but are better than receiving no help at all. One-to-one counselling may be organized in a person's local area if residential treatment rehab is not feasible. Alongside this, individuals may also have access to their local drug and alcohol services and fellowship meetings.
Substances that individuals will need to have treatment rehab for are substances such as alcohol, heroin, cocaine or cannabis, amongst others. A medicated detox is usually needed with these substances in order for individuals to withdraw safely and comfortably. This will typically be offered as part of a residential rehab programme. Afterwards, individuals will also be able to address their psychological dependence. This is vital in giving the individual the highest chance of a successful outcome.
When should someone seek Rehab Treatment?
Someone should seek rehab treatment when they suspect an addiction is present. There are a number of signs that may indicate this. For instance, the behaviour of an addict may change as they become more focused on their next fix. They may become agitated and irritable. Their social habits may also change such as a tendency to keep unusual hours. Physically, they may lose weight and appear unwell. Drug paraphernalia or alcohol bottles may also be found amongst their possessions.
Withdrawal symptoms are another good indicator that treatment rehab is urgently needed. Alcohol withdrawal symptoms include shaking, sweating, nausea and vomiting, which can progress into symptoms of delirium tremens. These have the potential to be fatal and cause brain damage; therefore professional support should be sought immediately.
Heroin withdrawal symptoms are not generally life-threatening, but they are extremely unpleasant. The presence of depression, agitation, fever, vomiting, diarrhoea and muscle ache suggest the individual should seek help to make this process as comfortable as possible. This is the same for other drug addictions, such as cannabis or cocaine, where treatment rehab should be sought to alleviate the initial intense psychological withdrawal symptoms.
Where to Rehab
It is important that the treatment rehab is tailored to the individual - addiction is different for each person; there is no “one-size-fits-all solution”. Triage Healthcare have an in-depth knowledge of the full range of treatment services and programme options throughout the UK, and will advise you independently of any particular centre.
It is possible to access private overseas services. This option can be particularly appealing to those individuals who have already accessed help in the UK with limited success. By travelling overseas to access treatment, the person is completely removed from their problematic surroundings. Overseas treatment can also represent better value for money in some cases.
Whilst it would clearly be preferable to receive treatment without paying for it, it is important to remember that there is an imbalance between availability of addiction treatment in the NHS and the demand in the community. Rather than residential rehab, support will typically be community-based and thus less intensive. However, it is certainly better than receiving no help at all.
How long could Rehab treatment take?
Full psychological and therapeutic programmes should ideally last a minimum of four weeks for an alcohol addiction, and six weeks for a drug addiction. However, primary programmes can last up to 12 weeks, and further secondary or tertiary residential support will be offered in most treatment centres as well.
How much does a private Treatment Rehab center cost?
Triage Healthcare recognises that there is a deficit in the provision of affordable private treatment for addictions in the UK. High quality free advice and information is provided to all, as well as best-value private treatment to individuals with a limited budget. If you arrange treatment through triage Healthcare you will never pay more and in some cases you will pay less for residential treatment than by booking direct with a treatment centre.
