Rehab News:Taking action against alcohol in Wales
A number of Welsh doctors have released several guidelines on their advice towards tackling alcoholism in Wales.
The Welsh British Medical Association (BMA) has unveiled the new measures in order to crack down on the growing drinking epidemic.
These instructions include paying more taxes on alcoholic drinks - with a higher tax on particularly strong beverages, a ban on drinking publicly, more money to help towards alcohol treatment plans and new laws to prohibit bars, clubs and shops from selling highly discounted drinks with alcohol.
The organisation also hopes to introduce some of these measures nationwide in an attempt to curb the growing levels of binge drinking across the country.
Richard Lewis, the Welsh secretary of the BMA, said: "This comprehensive set of measures are designed to cover a variety of problem areas. It's now up to the Assembly government in partnership with the UK government to ensure that these policies are taken forward."
He added: "After smoking, alcohol is the next big public health issue. The government needs to get to grips with the problem."
