Rehab News:Police work to tackle drink driving

Police forces have been working with local authorities and the Highways Agency to reduce the number of drink driving incidents this summer.

Officers have been carrying out high visibility patrols and using static check points on drivers in a bid to raise awareness among road users about the potential dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Humberside Police Traffic Management's Sergeant Neil Fillingham said that there have been positive reductions in the numbers of people being killed or seriously injured through drink and drug driving.

However, he pointed out that there is still a long way to go.

"Alcohol takes time to leave the body so whilst travelling around this summer, think before starting the ignition because the morning after you may still be over the legal limit."

Superintendent Carl Krueger, head of the operational support unit at Merseyside police, added: "There is no safe way to drink and drive, so think ahead and leave your keys at home."
