Rehab News:Police drinking campaign 'offers choices'

Police in Weymouth and West Dorset are tackling underage drinking by offering young people choices, it has been revealed.

Officers are running a roadshow which will visit schools in the region after half-term and raise awareness of activities that young people can get involved with that are not related to alcohol.

The roadshows will be run by Dorset Police's schools and community liaison officer, PC Geoff Calloway.

Weymouth Police's Kevin Eames told the Dorset Echo that a number of young people abuse alcohol and that the roadshow is part of a campaign to "steer young people in the right direction".

"By offering them choices and promoting positive activities it will show them that there are plenty of other things to do than drink cider and get up to no good," he explained.

"Alcohol-related trouble is only caused by a minority of young people but I think all children in the year nine age group will benefit from seeing the roadshow."
