Rehab News:MP backs campaign for better alcohol treatment services

Crewe and Nantwich MP Gwyneth Dunwoody has called for improvements and extra funding for alcohol treatment services in Cheshire.

Ms Dunwoody has met with a minister from the Department of Health to highlight the campaign organised by Alison Dixon of Sandbach.

The Crewe Chronicle reports that Ms Dixon's 26-year-old son Oliver was an alcoholic who committed suicide when he couldn't get the support from Central Alcohol Services he needed due to a lack of staff cover during a training day.

At the inquest in to Mr Dixon's death, Cheshire coroner Nicholas Rheinberg said: "There is a case for examining the alcohol services to see if they should be better resourced."

Ms Dixon now hopes to take a petition of more than 3,000 signatures to Downing Street next month.
