Rehab News:Computer game to tackle teen binge drinking
School children have developed a computer game that they hope will help tackle
alcohol abuse.
In a bid to combat the UK's rising
binge drinking culture, pupils from two schools in Renfrewshire, Scotland, have created the ThinknDrinkn game, according to the BBC.
The game involves the player finding a friend who has a deteriorating condition due to alcohol abuse.
Players will have to help the friend by providing them with fluids and food and taking them home or to a hospital while avoiding obstacles.
They will also be faced with questions about alcohol abuse and will be provided with links to relevant websites offering advice and information.
Developed by students at Paisley Grammar School and St Andrew's Academy, the game will go on Scotland's national schools intranet Glow so it can be used by schools all over the country as well as on mobile phones.
Teacher Andrew Dickie told BBC Radio's Good Morning Scotland: "Drink is a big problem just now and increasingly so, with such bad statistics at the moment across Scotland we're trying to do a little bit here and engage the students on their own territory."
Last month Ken Jones, president of the Association of Chief Police Officers, said that teenage binge drinking in the UK has reached "epidemic proportions".
