Rehab News:Alcohol support group launched

A new support group for people suffering the effects of alcohol abuse has been set up in South Lanarkshire.

John Sinclair of Black Sabbath was a speaker at the launch of Liber8 Lanarkshire Limited.

The rock star had alcohol problems for a number of years, but now works with alcoholics as a hypnotherapist.

The musician, who has been sober since 1990, said that when it comes to alcohol treatment, there is no "one size fits all" technique.

"But, by the nature and amount of options that are available, my feelings are that Liber8 will become a milestone in terms of helping people to regain control of their lives," he said.

The group, described by Provost Russell Clearie as "a very exciting landmark in our bid to tackle the problems of alcohol misuse", will develop prevention and education programmes and be staffed by professionally trained volunteers.

Vice chairman Tam Penman said that the group will provide a "fantastic service for people suffering from the effects of alcohol and those on the fringes of misusing alcohol at a young age".

"In short, we will now be able to provide a first class service to those most in need across South Lanarkshire."
