It also offers longer programmes for individuals with other substance addictions and mental health disorders.
Types of Drug & Heroin Detox Programmes Detox 5 offers
During the rapid detox programme, Detox 5 will address the physical withdrawal symptoms associated with an opiate addiction. During the first day, individuals will be assessed to gain insight on their medical background and drug history. Once settled into their individual room, clients will be sedated and provided with pain relief medication.
During the second and third days, clients will remain sedated. If they wake up, they will be given pain relief medication in order to allow the body to adequately detox from the drugs. Nurses will be available throughout this time to provide care as necessary.
During the fourth day, individuals will not be administered any further sedatives and will be expected to awaken naturally. The body will still need to detox from the remaining opiates within, and during this time clients will be given small doses of Naltrexone. Clients can expect to be asleep most of this day, but will be able to speak with family and friends on the telephone.
On the last day, clients will be given a full dose of Naltrexone, and will have the opportunity to meet with a consultant to further discuss their needs. Following this, clients will be given the choice of receiving Naltrexone in tablet form or in the form of an implant. Those who choose to have the implant can expect to undergo a minor surgical procedure before they go home.
Naltrexone is prescribed to patients following their detox because it blocks the effects of opiates on the brain, and stops the euphoric feelings associated with opiate use. It may help to prevent physical cravings, and an implant may be preferred because it removes the requirement of taking a tablet every day.
Detox 5 will brief clients before they leave on the physical and psychological symptoms that are likely to be experienced following the rapid detox. Follow-up telephone counselling will also be conducted with clients by a nurse for 12 weeks after completion of the programme.

Individuals will still need to seek psychological and therapeutic support upon their return home in order to maximise their chances of a successful outcome.
