The Clifton Clinic
The Clifton Clinic uses a therapeutic programme that incorporates the 12-step abstinence based model, one-to-one counselling and guidance on healthy living. The centre aims to facilitate internal change in order to help the client to respond more appropriately to their circumstances. Clients are constantly supervised and supported whilst being given the opportunity to deal with life and the challenges it brings.
Types of Treatment Services the Clifton Clinic offers
Prior to admission to the Clifton Clinic, a client and their family will be invited to undertake an assessment. This will involve asking various questions in order to establish the most appropriate form of treatment. The client may also view the accommodation and treatment facilities and ask any questions regarding the treatment programme and services offered.
When a client is admitted to the Clifton Clinic they will see the doctor and/or psychiatrist who will conduct a full medical assessment to ascertain the level of detox required, if any. The client will then be scheduled to see the Complimentary Health Nurse who will conduct a full health assessment and conduct health tests in order to start the process of physical recovery. Vitamins and a nutrition programme will be prescribed to support detox and aid recovery.
Once the admission process has been completed, the housing manager will help the client settle into their accommodation by ensuring that they are comfortable and supported. They will also be assigned a 'buddy'. This means that clients receive support and insight into the treatment process from someone further along than they are. Peer support is a vital part of recovery at the Clifton Clinic and the earlier these skills are learnt the better for long-term recovery.
Counselling plays a key role in treatment at the Clifton Clinic. Addiction is often accompanied by feelings of shame, self-loathing and fear. In a counselling session these can be addressed and the client can begin to understand they are not a bad person, but a sick one.
As well as the traditional twelve-step model, the Clifton Clinic also incorporates holistic approaches such as massage therapy and reflexology.
How long could treatment for drug and alcohol addiction at the Clifton Clinic take?
The Clifton Clinic typically offers a treatment programme that lasts 28 days. This will include a medicated detox if required along with the psychological support necessary for ongoing recovery. The length of time clients spend in the detox program can vary, depending on the drugs taken and the amount and length of use. The Clifton Clinic practices the twelve-step treatment method and so continuing engagement with the fellowship meetings would be encouraged following treatment. It is crucial that the client engages in the continued process of development and alteration to his or her lifestyle once abstinence is achieved, in order to maintain their sobriety.
